What we've been doing
Veterans for Veterans in Care
Veterans for Veterans in Care visited us on November 1st and what they have created is something very special.
Their aim is to identify as many Veteran's living in residential homes as possible and to ensure that their service is remembered and they are provided as much support as possible.
They do this for free, an act of selfless commitment, they will go door to door if need be to identify families of those who once served now in residential care, dressed in suit/blazer beret, veteran pin and medals, to every single occasion this is their uniform and just as they did this morning which set them aside from everyone else.
So....They are basically your HQ and where possible want to set up an outreach with help from veteran led drop in Centres & Hubs as there forward operating bases.
Wouldn't it be great if that each hub/breakfast club could put forward 2 representatives to represent them, that would be willing to visit residential care homes in your area of operations and to visit a minimum once per month.
You will be initially shadowed and advised by a member from Veterans for Veterans in care, and then left alone to carry on their good work.
A prerequisite to your act of selfless commitment is a minimum of 3 years military service.
Please please please let's coordinate our efforts and get amongst this incredible organisation doing right by those who signed that blank cheque.

Newcastle City Council
We attended the first support event ran by Newcastle City Council at the Civic Centre. This is something we had asked for.
This event was focused on providing housing advice. This is the start of a wider series of events designed to help veterans and their families.
Future events will focus on well being, employment and financial advice.
Look out for future events posted on our Facebook page.
This is step forward by the council in recognising the service of our veterans and ensuring they have the opportunities and support they deserve.

Teaching Children First Aid
Newcastle Veteran's Hub hosted and in collaboration with All Wheel Drive Response North East & Train4Med, welcomed 6 children aged 6 to 11, who took part in a range of hands-on activities.
They learned how and when to:
Call the emergency services
Shout for help
Put on a bandage
Place someone in the recovery position
Do CPR and use an AED (defibrillator)
At the end of the session, each child proudly received a Certificate of Completion and left as a First Aid Hero!
A special thank you to Joe @JMP Medical who kindly allowed the use for one of their Rapid Response Vehicles (RRV) — giving the children a chance to sit inside and have their photo taken. It was a highlight of the day!
