Sovereign Lodge Residential Care Home

Sovereign Lodge proudly hosted the Newcastle Veterans Hub Breakfast on 26th September.

We were joined by Bill, a Royal Military Police veteran from another local care home. Unfortunately, David, a veteran from 2 RIFLES, was unable to attend due to illness.  Special thanks to Kara and Leslie for your hospitality and looking after us.

A heartfelt thank you to Sovereign Lodge for recognising and supporting veterans in care, as well as those living within the local community. Events like these provide a valuable opportunity for veterans to come together, share experiences and enjoy each other’s company. 🇬🇧

Armed Forces Day

Newcastle Veterans Hub was proud to attend and be represented at Newcastle City Council's Armed Forces Day event, standing alongside veterans, serving personnel, cadets, and organisations from across the city to honour those who have served our country.

The day began with a moving flag-raising ceremony at the Civic Centre, including the sounding of the Last Post, a minute's silence, and Reveille, providing a fitting opportunity to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Throughout the event, the city came together to celebrate the Armed Forces community, with information stalls, military displays, music, and family-friendly activities highlighting the support available to serving personnel, veterans, and their families.

It was an honour for Newcastle Veterans Hub to be part of such an important occasion, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to supporting veterans across our region and working alongside partner organisations to ensure no veteran is left behind.

Thank you to Joint Ex-soldiers Association UK, Newcastle City Council and everyone involved in organising such a respectful and well-supported event. #ArmedForcesDay #Veterans #Newcastle #Community #SupportOurForces

Veterans for Veterans in Care

Veterans for Veterans in Care visited us on November 1st 2025 and what they have created is something very special.

Their aim is to identify as many Veteran's living in residential homes as possible and to ensure that their service is remembered and they are provided as much support as possible.

They do this for free, an act of selfless commitment, they will go door to door if need be to identify families of those who once served now in residential care, dressed in suit/blazer beret, veteran pin and medals, to every single occasion this is their uniform and just as they did this morning which set them aside from everyone else.

So....They are basically your HQ and where possible want to set up an outreach with help from veteran led drop in Centres & Hubs as there forward operating bases.

Wouldn't it be great if that each hub/breakfast club could put forward 2 representatives to represent them, that would be willing to visit residential care homes in your area of operations and to visit a minimum once per month.

You will be initially shadowed and advised by a member from Veterans for Veterans in care, and then left alone to carry on their good work.

A prerequisite to your act of selfless commitment is a minimum of 3 years military service.

Please please please let's coordinate our efforts and get amongst this incredible organisation doing right by those who signed that blank cheque.

Newcastle City Council

We attended the first support event ran by Newcastle City Council at the Civic Centre.  This is something we had asked for.

This event was focused on providing housing advice. This is the start of a wider series of events designed to help veterans and their families.

Future events will focus on well being, employment and financial advice.

Look out for future events posted on our Facebook page.

This is step forward by the council in recognising the service of our veterans and ensuring they have the opportunities and support they deserve.

Teaching Children First Aid

Newcastle Veteran's Hub hosted and in collaboration with All Wheel Drive Response North East & Train4Med, welcomed 6 children aged 6 to 11, who took part in a range of hands-on activities.

They learned how and when to:

 Call the emergency services

 Shout for help

 Put on a bandage

Place someone in the recovery position

Do CPR and use an AED (defibrillator)

At the end of the session, each child proudly received a Certificate of Completion and left as a First Aid Hero!

A special thank you to Joe @JMP Medical who kindly allowed the use for one of their Rapid Response Vehicles (RRV) — giving the children a chance to sit inside and have their photo taken. It was a highlight of the day!
